goosey
Social card checker
from polymorphismAn Open Graph checker that remembers
goosey checks the tags that decide how a link looks when it is shared: og:title, og:description, og:image and the Twitter card tags. Enter a URL and it draws the card in the large, compact and thumbnail shapes that feeds use, lists each problem with its fix, and keeps the result so you can check again once the page has changed.
What it checks
- The title, description and image are there, and short enough not to be cut.
- The image loads, is a shape and size the platforms accept, and keeps its detail when a feed crops it square.
- A crawler gets the same card as a reader's browser. A page can look right to the person who made it and be broken for everyone who shares it.
- Relative and insecure image addresses, images blocked to crawlers by robots.txt, transparency and slow images.
A whole site at once
Type a domain and goosey reads its sitemap, groups the pages by template and checks one from every template, then more from the biggest, so a site of thousands of pages costs at most 40 checks. It shows you the plan, and what it will spend, before it starts.
Kept, compared and gated
Results stay in your browser, filed in collections. Each re-check says what changed since the last one. Set your own level for any check, for one collection or all of them, and copy a CI gate that fails a build on anything you have marked as an error.
Free, with no account
500 checks a day without signing up, and a free key raises that. Each page is fetched by our API, which you can also call yourself. What goosey finds is kept in your browser only.
Check the page you are on
Drag Check in goosey to your bookmarks bar. Click it on any page and goosey opens with that page: checked if it is new, or as it was last checked if goosey already has it.
Questions
- Why does my link preview show no image?
- Usually the og:image tag is missing, its address is relative or not https, the image is too small, or it is blocked to the platform's crawler. goosey says which, and gives the tag to paste.
- I fixed the page. Why do people still see the old card?
- Platforms keep their own copy of a card. Facebook documents 24 hours and LinkedIn publishes no figure, so a post shared before the fix can still show the old one. goosey reads the page as it is now, so it shows what a new share will get.
- Is it the same as the social card preview?
- The checks are the same. The social card preview shows a result and moves on; goosey keeps it, re-checks whole sites and tells you what changed.
